New for 2010 - Student Energy Savers $5,000 Grant

Welcome to the Education Program for LightsOut Ohio. Here at LightsOut, we are not only committed to reducing energy consumption in order to prevent global warming, but we are also interested in educating the next generation about energy and energy conservation.

Make your Earth Day fun and informative with engaging lessons and take-home activities prepared for grade levels ranging from K-12.

LESSONS

Students will learn:

  • The advantages and disadvantages of different forms of energy along with their impacts on the environment

  • How to conserve energy and use it more efficiently.

A panel of local educators selected these lessons and activities based in part on compliance with state science standards. They include puzzles, games, demonstrations, experiments and quizzes.

For grades:  K-2   3-5   6-8   9-12

TAKE HOME ASSIGNMENTS

Students and their families can join the rest of the community in performing energy conservation at home for Earth Day evening.

  • Make it as simple as turning off all non-essential lights as a step towards make energy-saving choice every day.

  • Great for extra credit!

  • These, or similar assignments, should be used for eligibility for the  Student Energy Savers Grant Drawing.

CARBON FOOTPRINT CALCULATORS

Learn how much CO2 a family adds to the atmosphere through energy consumption.
